In comes one patient, then out the door
By the end of the day, there will be plenty more
Hear the symptoms and order the tests
Save the patient, no time to rest
Suddenly in this moment, everything changes
You look in his chart and flip through the pages
Do whatever you can,
for this dying man
As you work to save his life,
you think of his history and his strife
If only his doctor from years before,
told him how to prevent a sore
If only he knew how simple it was to delay,
all this pain he is in this day
A simple walk or a stroll could have helped avoid this toll
But the patient never knew, and now his diabetes grew
Leaving nothing this doctor could do
Thinking and thinking, how can I avoid this in the future?
I must remember, I am also a teacher
And with what I know, I can help others grow
Because knowledge is free, prevention is key.
